UX Design: Airline Booking System
The Project
Design a user-friendly airline booking system that works for multiple airlines.
I worked on this project as an Experience Designer at ExpandTheRoom.
The Challenges
There are a whole lot of rules and regulations around airlines that we needed to ramp up on.
Personally, I started on this project after the discovery phase was completed and the design process had already begun—so creative direction, user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, all of that had already been done.
We needed to account for international differences—like the order dates get formatted in.
The company we were working with was extremely large and internationally located, so we had to be very mindful of how to make communication and feedback cycles efficient and effective.
My Role
On this project, I played two key roles. I helped to create wireframes against the user story requirements and I helped to write functional documentation for said wireframes detailing all functional and informational requirements for each screen related to each user story.

Deliverables
Our biggest win on this project was gaining the client’s trust and buy-in to the UX design process. The spirit of UX permeated their culture and they began to adopt design principles in-house. This was a pretty significant accomplishment given the size of their company. Our design system has been successfully rolled out to several of the company’s airline customers and we have received positive feedback on the system from the client.
